What Happened to Pinterest’s API?

Eek!

At approximately 8pm EDT on Monday, several of the Pinterest data feed servers experienced a problem that it appears they have not fully recovered from.

In our experience with past Pinterest-side glitches, they usually get them fixed up after 9am PDT. This outage is a little unusual in that Pinterest.com itself isn’t down any longer. It’s a bummer because, in just 2 days after launching, we have been getting excellent feedback from people that we never would have dreamed would be using Spinterest! All is not lost, however. You can still use the service to spin and pin Instagram and Reddit pics. We’ll be adding more incoming feeds in the near future. Suggestions are welcomed.

So what is the good news? For starters, we’ve learned to make our apps deal with unexpected problems a little more gracefully. There’s more work to be done on that but our short term goal was “not crashing.” People’s response to the outage just confirms how attached people have gotten to our service in a short period of time.

Most of all, this is an opportunity to continue working on making Spinterest something much bigger than just a Pinterest app and we’re very happy to have you along for the ride!
